To cover Top

First cut all pieces to size and the cut special details below.

Now that you have all the pieces it is just a matter of nailing them together.

( 1 ) Assemble the frame.
Make the back and part of the front first as shown.
Then fix the side pieces ( B4 ).
Next nail in the bottom front ( B1 ) in position.
Finally fix the 2 pieces ( B5 ) as shown resting on top of the front lip ( B1 )

( 2 ) Put on tongue and groove siding.
Nail the back siding first ( B6 ) and then the sides
Notice that the top board should be cut to finish 1" above the frame.
The front pieces remain loose but should also be fitted to finish 1" above the frame.

( 3 ) Make the cover
Nail the cover together as shown and cover from front to back with the aluminum sheet.
You may prefer a different cover than aluminum but I find the light weight makes it easy to lift off. We painted ours to look like antique copper.

( 4 )  Make the tray.
The tray is made in two pieces with the wire mesh sandwiched between.
I found the extra support (front to back) on the underneath layer was
necessary to prevent sagging.

( 5 )  Make the slider
This is a simple frame with wire mesh on the bottom.
I found that a nailing strip (S3-S4) was necessary to prevent raw ends
of the mesh catching.
